What was your memories of your childhood dog? I had mini. shcn. UGH... I hated those dogs, from a young age I swore I would never own one when I was older. I guess I can thank them for my love of big dogs. They were yappy and thought they were made of lead, tring to eat every big dog they could find. I can honestly say I was embarressed to walk them. I can remember seeing people with shepards and boxers and thinking- those are dogs! Then I would go on my merry way with my shaved runt of the litter rat dog. I had lots of dogs growing up. All kinds of Hounds (my dad hunted). AM.Cockers, australian shepards,GSDs and an unlimited amount of mixes that came and went. I lived in the country where everyone would dump their unwanted dogs. For me it was the life. For my parents UGH! another dog dumped. Until one day my dad saw someone dump a dog by our house and he grabbed the dog and got in his truck and chased the fellow to the gas station (10 minutes away and he didn't know my dad was following him with a suprise). The man was filling up and my dad took the dog up to him and said you forgot this! Take it to the pound if you don't want it. The guy was suprised. I was bummed....I almost had another dog. And I had to be nice to this snarling piece of fluff. We had Gordon setters when I was a child and I really like them. Too hot here for them but will always have a soft spot for them. | ||

Then we had a b.m., next was our Springer's....The springer was our (and my last until now)first show quality dog we owned-And we dabled a bit it showing...It made me always want to get back in the ring....But now its with a drool rag and a giant! =) There is no beginning or end. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. | ||

How many times her velvet ears mopped up my tears! Honey was a refuge from the fear in that house. She was so good, and yet, toward the end of her life, when she was crippled and chewed with fleas, she was forced to become an 'outside dog'. After years of spending her youth indoors, she was suddenly "too dirty" "too buggy" "too incontinent" "too smelly" "too sickly" "too ugly" "too bothersome" to stay inside and now had to experience the the heat, the freeze, the rain and the snow along with old age. I helped her as much as I was allowed. Picked off fleas, scratched the places she couldn't reach, towed her on a towel to shelter. And one day she was gone. Father watched me hunt for her, call her name for hours, knowing all along that he had finished her without the chance for goodbye. | ||

 Registered Member #234 Joined: Wed Feb 10 2010, 11:00AMLocation: canada Posts: 1 Thanked 0 time in 0 post | My son just informed me he's 17, that since we got our neo, life been easier, you can sneak in and out of the house, no problem now....as soon as he hears her snore even from outside the only thing in the way is the newf against the door, which is easy to push away, step over the neo (he says he always gives a kiss to her because she is soo loud the rotti in the next room which always use to give him away, now can't hear him coming and going) The Newfies are his favorite childhood dogs, but the neo is his favorite teenager dog . lol Crys | ||
